Cookies are pieces of text placed by Web applications on client computers in order to store and retrieve information about the client. This information is then used by the Web application to personalize the responses to clients during Web sessions.

The Web browser stores the cookie in a cookie database for a specified amount of time. The cookie includes a description that defines a range of Web addresses for which it is valid. The next time a Web browser reconnects to a page within this range, the contents of the cookie will be submitted to the Web server alongside the request.
